Mud, Sweat and Tears

Have some fun while challenging your mental and physical fitness at Mud, Sweat and Tears  on Sunday. You can compete as an individual or a team but you must be aged over 13 and happy to get dirty.

The event is being held at Motukarara Racecourse and you can do either the 5km or 10km course. The course includes mud slides, a forest run, a crawl under a sea of barbed wire, horse jumps, water jumps, wobbly bridges, mud runs and floating platforms so it is not for the faint-hearted.

Late registrations will be taken at the racecourse Sunday between 8.30 and 9.30am.  There will be a Wife Carrying Charity Race at 10am following by the main event at 11am.

Christchurch Art Show

Come along and see quality art works from new and established New Zealand artists at the Christchurch Art Show. Thousands of artworks will be on display and available to buy, with prices starting from $50.

The show is being held at Air Force Museum of New Zealand, in Wigram, ans is open from 10am to 8pm on Saturday and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday. Food trucks will be on site on Saturday evening between 5pm and 8pm so you can browse the art works and enjoy a bite to eat.

Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for Gold Card holders.

Matariki Whānau Fun Day

Orauwhata Bishopdale Library and Community Centre is hosting a whānau fun day on Saturday between 10am and 1pm to celebrate Matariki. Come along and learn about traditional Maori kites, enjoy some Matariki storytelling and be part of a flash mob attempt.

There will also be a Matariki-themed scavenger hunt with a few prizes up for grabs. 

Lantern making workshop

The team at the Botanic Gardens are running a workshop between 10am and midday on Saturday where they will show you how to combine twigs, leaves, paper to make lanterns to light up the chilly nights of Matariki.

The workshop is geared towards children aged seven to 12 but all ages are welcome.  The workshop costs $5 and spaces are limited.

 Winter Encraftment Market

 If you want some retail therapy with a difference, head to Winter Encraftment Market and browse products handmade by local crafters and designers. There will be stalls featuring everything from clothing, accessories and jewellery to housewares, toys and stationery.

 The market is being held at the Lincoln Event Centre and is open from 10am to 3pm on Sunday. Admission is free.

 Tour Christchurch's superhomes

This weekend is your last chance to take a free, self-guided tour of Christchurch's most sustainable homes.

Eleven of Christchurch's most sustainable homes will be on show between 11am and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday for you to visit, nosey around, and talk to the experts there about how you can incorporate their great ideas into your own home.

The homes - billed as superhomes because of their energy efficiency - are super warm, super dry and have super low power bills.

Red Zone Futures Exhibition

Take the family along and visit the Red Zone Futures exhibition to give your feedback on the plans for the red zoned land along the Avon River corridor. The exhibition shows how an 11km Green Spine from the city to New Brighton, featuring walkways, biking tracks and wetland developments, will be complemented by other potential public and private uses.

The exhibition includes fun interactive activities and is open daily at 99 Cashel Street from 10am to 3pm.
