Eight people are contesting Christchurch’s mayoralty this election, while 40 people are standing for Council seats and 70 people will contest the Community Board positions.

All candidates have also been offered the opportunity to film a short video about themselves, answering election-related questions.

The videos have been filmed on Council premises and will be published on the Council website in the first week of September.

Election Officer Warwick Lampp said candidate videos were offered to Christchurch candidates for the first time this election.

“We are pleased that voters will have the opportunity to view a video of their candidates this election, as well as the standard photo and written profiles. The intention of the videos is to give voters as much information about the candidates as possible.”

Voting papers for the elections will start arriving in enrolled voters’ letterboxes from 9 September.

All voters can cast a vote for their preferred Mayoral candidate, while Councillors and Community Board members will be elected by voters from the wards they are seeking to represent.
