The Council’s outstanding customer service has again been recognised nationally, with an award going to the team supporting building inspections for their first ever entry.

The Inspections Support team entered the annual CRM/CCNNZ Contact Centre Awards for the inaugural time this year and took out the top prize in the Building Support Services category.

The team deal predominantly with builders booking inspections to check construction work in Christchurch and Banks Peninsula, as well as ensuring all related paperwork is received and filed correctly.

Head of Building Consenting Steffan Thomas is proud of the win.

“Our small crew of just 10 customer service superstars in the building consents team work hard. This award demonstrates just how much they care about their jobs that help our city’s construction industry run smoothly.”

In addition to the building support award, the Council’s wider Customer Services team’s winning streak over the last five years also continued. They took out the New Zealand Contact Centre best Public Service Award for the sixth year in a row, and the NZ Supreme Gold Award for the third consecutive year.

The Customer Services Contact Centre operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with a team of about 50 people handling all incoming calls from queries about rubbish collection to reporting potholes.

Head of Customer Services Sarah Numan says the Supreme Gold Award is judged nationally across all Contact Centre industries, so to secure top place for three years in a row says a lot about the team's professionalism and commitment. 

 "The Customer Services team are a great asset to the Council and are the first point of contact for our citizens and community.

"These awards are confirmation of the fantastic job they do. Our residents consistently tell us how much they value the team in our residents' survey, and again we have industry-wide confirmation of this.”
