Christchurch City Council is asking for feedback on the clearway being trialled on Hagley Avenue.
For the past year, the Council has been trialling a clearway on the north side of Hagley Avenue, between St Asaph Street and Riccarton Avenue.
The clearway operates between 7.30am and 7.30pm, enabling approximately 18 additional on-street carparks to be available in the evening. The lane is open to normal traffic flow during the day.
The trial was requested by Councillor Aaron Keown and was approved by the Finance and Performance Committee in December 2024, after Christchurch Hospital staff raised concerns about the lack of parking near the hospital.
“Feedback from people who have used the additional car parking and those who use the road at night will help us assess the impact of closing the kerbside lane at night and inform the elected Council’s decision on whether to make the clearway permanent,” says Head of Transport Stephen Wright.
Consultation on the clearway is open until 15 February, learn more here: letstalk.ccc.govt.nz/hagleyclearway
