Make the most of an Ōtautahi winter with these popular Christchurch City Council events.

Tīrama Mai 

Opening tomorrow from 4.30pm, this free cultural festival shines a light on Puanga and Matariki with artistic displays, projections, performances, exhibitions and interactive experiences. 

Tīrama Mai 2025 is based at Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū and The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora, with some works also along Worcester Boulevard and at Riverside Market.

KidsFest 

The KidsFest programme of events has been live for two weeks now – so if you haven’t already snapped up tickets for your top picks, now is the time.  

Plan out your school holiday calendar with KidsFest at What’s On, where more than 250 activities across the region are on offer over the winter school holidays (28 June to 13 July). 

Whether your tamariki are into the outdoors, wildlife, sports, technology, crafts, drama, dance, or music, they’ll have plenty of ways to stay active, creative and inspired these holidays.  

Winter Fireworks Spectacular 

Round up your friends and whānau, wrap up in coats and woollies, and head for the beach! New Brighton is poised once again to host the Winter Fireworks Spectacular on Saturday 5 July. 

The fireworks will be set off from the New Brighton Pier at 7.30pm with a showstopping soundtrack of ‘Fire and Ice’ themed hits. Food vendors and family-friendly entertainment will also liven up the carpark north of the pier from 5.30pm to 8pm

Go Live Festival 

In the warmth of the iconic Christchurch Town Hall, dance the night away at Go Live Festival. From 7pm to 11pm on Saturday 23 August, 15 talented music artists – including Minuit, Tadpole and Slim – will perform across four stages.
