Summer Sundays is back with a vibrant mix of live music at the Botanic Gardens this summer.
Talented local acts will perform on the Archery Lawn from 1 - 4pm over three Sunday afternoons, with concerts on 1 February, 8 February and 22 February.
“From emerging artists to well-known Ōtautahi favourites, Summer Sundays always delivers sweet sounds and a laid-back atmosphere,” says Christchurch City Council’s Events and Arts Manager Lucy Blackmore.
“Gather up your friends and whānau for one, two or all three events! Bring a picnic and enjoy some of the amazing musicians we’re lucky enough to have here in Christchurch.”
To get the ball rolling, the ultimate five-piece covers group DnD Showband pays tribute to legendary rock band Fleetwood Mac, with a high-energy set spanning 1968's Albatross through to 1987's Little Lies.
They’re joined by Silver Train – The Rolling Stones Tribute, bringing spirit, swagger and raw energy to the music of The Rolling Stones. Expect fiery renditions that capture the Stones' magic sound, from the infectious groove of Sympathy for the Devil to the strut of Start Me Up.
Then get lost in the magical sounds of Going Bush – A Kate Bush Tribute, conjuring songs such as Running up that Hill, Babooshka and Wuthering Heights.
Lloyd & Doublet take to the stage with acoustic blues, boogie, ballads and country & roots music performed by keyboardist John Sanchez-Lloyd and guitarist Phil Doublet.
Singer-songwriter Kelly Horgan rounds out the lineup with melodic pop-rock and catchy, guitar-driven hooks.
The final event features the Karra Rhodes Band whose blend of modern country grit and pop is inspired by artists like Carrie Underwood, Shania Twain and Delta Goodrem.
They’re joined by Lauren Marshall, the new lead singer for kiwi rock group Tadpole. The accomplished vocalist and musician also performs under the name 'LOVETA', recently opening for the legendary Dionne Warwick, and playing at Electric Avenue Festival earlier this year.
Under the Wind concludes with easy listening originals and covers with a twist.
Summer Sundays concerts are free and run from 1-4pm on the Archery Lawn of the Botanic Gardens. Picnic food, drinks and chairs are welcome – but no glass please.
