Learn about our waterways, take a free morning yoga class and check out a local market - here's your low cost guide to the weekend in Christchurch.

Tipuria tō reo: Dallington Landing tree planting

Christchurch City Council, Conservation Volunteers New Zealand and Kōrero ki Ōtautahi have joined forces to celebrate te reo and te taiao. Come along to the Rotary Forest of Peace and Remembrance from 10am – 1pm Saturday for a tree planting to help restore part of an important floodplain ecosystem in the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor.

Tools will be provided, please wear sturdy hū/footwear and bring your own takawai/water bottle. We will finish with some manaakitanga and learn a waiata together - Ko te Pū. Meet at approximately 35 Gayhurst Road, park about 200m down the road from Dallington Landing.

Fortune of the Waters: A fun game to discover our waterways

Envirokids is a year-round programme run by Christchurch Envirohub Trust. Every week, the group provides different environment-themed activities for children. This weekend, Envirokids is teaming up with the Avon Ōtākaro Network to discover the amazing life of our waterways.

Learn about Christchurch’s urban rivers through hands-on activities and games - including a fun fortune-teller game that reveals watery wonders and eco-friendly tips. Come along to the Christchurch Botanic Gardens kiosk from 10am – 1pm Saturday to join in.

Like Bodies Like Minds Fair Day

The Like Bodies Like Minds Fair Day is on from 10.30am – 3pm Saturday at Tūranga. The Fair Day is a community event bringing together support services, information, making and crafting and all the fun of the fair.

Check out the feel good clothing swap, zine fair and market celebrating our diverse rangatahi community. 

Pop up Sunday Slow Flow Yoga

Come along to the cosy yoga studio space above Piko Wholefoods for a Sunday Slow Flow yoga session. This class if for you if you are in need of some help reducing stress, reducing muscle tension and gently waking up the muscles in your body. It is a relaxes class open to all levels and is beginner friendly.

This is a community event from 9 - 9.45am Sunday, come along for free or choose to donate $10 to support the running costs of the class. Bring your own yoga mat, register online. 

'To have a place' exhibition

The ‘To have a place’ exhibition, presented by Te Pūtahi Centre for Architecture and City-Making with leading researchers from Toi Āria: Design for Public Good, opens to the public on Friday 16 May at the LiVS incubator at 110 Cashel Street. Exploring connections to public places in Ōtautahi Christchurch, this exhibition presents ways to better understand and record connections between people and public places in the city. 

Building on prior contributions, the exhibition is an invitation to people of all ages to come along and add their thoughts and feelings on how the city makes them feel, in addition to the places and public spaces that are significant to them. Visit Te Pūtahi website for more information.
