Kerbside collection
- There's no bin collection on Christmas Day and New Year's Day
- From 25 December to 4 January, Thursday and Friday collections will be a day later (Friday and Saturday). There are no changes to Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday collections
- Please put your bin out by 6am, more information can be found on our website
Eco-drop transfer stations
- All Christchurch EcoDrop transfer stations and Resource Recovery Centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day

Recreation and Sport Centres, Summer Pools and He Puna Taimoana
- All Council-owned recreation and sport centres will be closed from 6pm Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day, except for Lyttelton and Templeton Summer Pools which will still be open to season pass keyholders on December 25. Normal hours will resume from Monday 6 January
- Cowles Stadium is currently closed until 5 January, and the Southern Centre will be closed from midday on 23 December until 5 January
- He Puna Taimoana will be closed on Christmas Day. The last session on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day will be 3pm to 5pm, and the hot pools will otherwise operate with normal hours throughout the holiday period.
Jellie Park will be open:
- From 7am to 8pm between 26 to 30 December, and 7am to 6pm on New Year’s Eve
- On New Year’s Day opening hours will be from 10am to 8pm
- Between 2 and 4 January opening hours will be 7am to 8pm
- The hydroslides will be open from midday to 6pm over this period
Graham Condon will be open:
- From 7am to 8pm between 26 to 30 December, and 7am to 6pm on New Year’s Eve
- On New Year’s Day opening hours will be from 10am to 8pm
- Between 2 and 4 January opening hours will be from 7am to 8pm
Pioneer will be open:
- From 7am to 8pm from 26 to 30 December, and 7am to 6pm on New Year’s Eve
- On New Year’s Day opening hours will be from 10am to 8pm
- Between 2 and 4 January opening hours will be from 7am to 8pm
Matatiki Hornby Centre will be open:
- From 7am to 8pm from 26 to 30 December, and 7am to 6pm on New Year’s Eve
- On New Year’s Day opening hours will be from 10am to 8pm
- Between 2 and 4 January opening hours will be from 7am to 8pm
Taiora QEII will be open:
- From 7am to 8pm from 26 to 30 December, and 7am to 6pm on New Year’s Eve
- On New Year’s Day opening hours will be from 10am to 8pm
- Between 2 and 4 January opening hours will be from 7am to 8pm
- The hydroslides will be open from 10am to 6pm over this period
Te Pou Toetoe Linwood Pool will be open:
- From 7am to 8pm from 26 to 30 December, and 7am to 6pm on New Year’s Eve
- On New Year’s Day opening hours will be from 10am to 8pm
- Between 2 and 4 January opening hours will be from 7am to 8pm
- The manu pool will be open from 10am over this period and closing times vary (manu pool closing times: 8pm on 26, 29 and 30 December, and 1 and 2 January; 7pm on 27 and 28 December, and 3 and 4 January; 6pm on 31 January)
Parakiore will be open:
- From 7am to 8pm from 26 to 30 December, and 7am to 6pm on New Year’s Eve
- On New Year’s Day opening hours will be from 10am to 8pm
- Between 2 and 4 January opening hours will be from 7am to 8pm
- The hydroslides will be open from 10am to 7pm over this period, except for New Year’s Eve when they will close earlier at 6pm
The Summer Pools at Waltham, Te Hāpua Halswell Centre, Lyttelton and Templeton will be open:
- From 11.30am to 7pm from 26 to 30 December, and from 11.30am to 6pm on New Year’s Eve
- From New Year’s Day to 4 January opening hours will be from 10.30am to 7pm
- Hydroslides at Waltham and Te Hāpua will be open from midday to 6pm over this period

Libraries
- All libraries will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and 2 January

Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū
- The Christchurch Art Gallery will be closed on Christmas Day, and will close slightly earlier than usual at 5pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve
- Over the rest of the holiday period, it will be open during usual hours (10am to 5pm Thursday to Tuesday, 10am to 9pm Wednesday)
Service desks
Closed for the holiday period:
- The Civic Reception Desk on Hereford Street, Akaroa, Beckenham, Lyttelton and Little River Service Centre are closed from Christmas Day and reopen Monday 5 January
Open between Christmas and 5 January:
- These centres will be open 29, 30 and 31 December from 9am to 5pm, and will fully reopen from Monday 5 January: Riccarton, Papanui, Shirley, Linwood and Fendalton service hubs. These centres will be closed all other dates during this period
Open every day after Christmas with reduced hours:
- Te Hāpua Halswell Customer Service Centre is closed on Christmas Day only and is on reduced hours of 11am to 7pm from 26 to 28 December, and 1 and 2 January
- Matatiki Hornby Customer Service Hub is closed on Christmas Day and is on reduced hours between 26 December and 5 January of 7am to 8pm. Except for New Year’s Day when the centre will only be open between 10am to 8pm

- The Council’s Contact Centre will be open 24 hours, seven days a week throughout the Christmas and New Year period for urgent queries
