Christchurch is set for an action packed weekend with two major sports events being held in the city.
Drivers heading to Banks Peninsula can expect some delays with the annual 100km Le Race cycling race, from Cathedral Square to Akaroa, starting at 7.30am on Saturday.
On Sunday, the City2Surf fun run and walk kicks off at 9am.
Le Race cyclists will follow city streets up to Dyers Pass Road and along the Summit Road to Gebbies Pass. They will then follow State Highway 75 to Little River and the Hilltop Tavern, before veering left to take the Summit Road to Akaroa. Some traffic management plans will be in place.
The Le Race cycle event started in 1999 and will this year feature Le Race Petite - a shortened 53km route that finishes at Little River.
The City2Surf's 14 km course starts from Pioneer Stadium's Centennial Park and the 6 km event begins at Hansens Park in Opawa. Both routes follow the Heathcote River and finish at the Ferrymead playing fields where a family event will be held with live music and entertainment.
Organisers have warned motorists there are likely to be delays along the route. Groups of runners and walkers will be stopped for short periods at major road crossings such as Barrington Street and Colombo Street, to allow traffic queues to clear.
