Videos featuring candidates in the upcoming local election have been published online by Christchurch City Council in a new initiative.
All candidates for Mayor, Council and Community board were offered the opportunity to film a short video, answering election-related questions.
The videos were filmed at Council premises in August to provide Christchurch voters with more information about their candidates.
Ninety-two of the 97 candidates took up the offer to film a short video about themselves.
Every candidate was asked:
Election Officer Warwick Lampp said personal videos were offered to Christchurch candidates for the first time this election.
“The intention of the videos is to give voters as much information about the candidates as possible, and we are pleased so many candidates took up the opportunity.
“We know that lack of information about candidates can be a reason why people do not engage in the election process. We encourage voters to watch the videos and read their candidate profile statements.”
The videos have been published with the candidate profile statements that were published last week.
Information and candidate profile booklets featuring their photos and statements will also be included with voting papers. These will be delivered via post between 9 and 22 September.
All voters can cast a vote for their preferred Mayoral candidate, while Councillors and Community Board members will be elected by voters from the wards they are seeking to represent. Voting for the election closes at noon, Saturday 11 October.
Voters can post their completed voting papers into any NZ Post or DX Mail post box by 7 October or drop it into an orange vote bin at Council facilities and locations in your community.
The list contains the locations that are currently confirmed to host vote bins. New locations may be added to the list in the future.
Electors who don’t receive their voting documents can still vote by requesting special voting documents between 9 September and election day from Council Customer Service Hubs, emailing elections@ccc.govt.nz or phoning 03 941 8999. For details of special voting locations see our website.
