It is shaping up to be a wet weekend in Christchurch but luckily there are some good indoor events on to keep you entertained.
Animals of all shapes, sizes and breeds will feature in the Christchurch Pet & Animal Expo.
Pioneer Stadium will be home to all things cute, cuddly and fluffy this weekend.
It is hosting the popular Christchurch Pet & Animal Expo which celebrates our feathered and four-legged friends and the positive role they play in our lives.
Come along and get advice on how to care for your pet and check out the latest in pet products and services. There will also be entertainment and demonstrations throughout the expo, including a dog and duck herding show.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children aged five to 16 years. Admission is free for under-5s. The expo is on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.
Spend two hours on Saturday afternoon playing board games at the Fendalton Library in Jeffreys Road. The library is hosting a games afternoon to mark International Table Top Games Day, which is being celebrated with events all around the globe.
Come along and try games likes Sequence, Pictionary, and Two Rooms and Boom. The games are aimed at kids 13 years and over but everyone is welcome to come along – and to bring their own board games. The event runs from 2 to 4pm.
Some of New Zealand’s most talented young musicians will be performing at St Margaret’s College of Saturday.
The young musicians are part of the New Zealand Secondary Schools Symphony Orchestra and will be performing under the baton of Tianyi Lu, who is assistant conductor of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
The concert is being held in the College’s Charles Luney Auditorium and begins at 7pm.
A wet weather forecast for Saturday has led to the postponement of the Hororata Night Glow event from Saturday afternoon until Sunday. Pre-purchased tickets will be transferred.
Held at the Hororata Domain, the event attracts balloonists from all over New Zealand and is a unique opportunity for people in the South Island to experience hot air balloons lighting up the night sky.
An autumn festival, including live music, children’s entertainment, and a great array of street food, will be run in tandem with the Night Glow. Gates open at 3pm and music kicks off at 3.30pm with the Night Glow starting at 6pm. The carpark closes to incoming traffic at 6.30pm.
