Known for their energetic live shows, Slim will perform hits like ‘Rise Up’ and ‘Bullet in My Hand’ at their Go Live set on Saturday 23 August.
The festival, produced by Christchurch City Council, will see 13 acts play across four stages.
After disbanding more than 20 years ago in 2003, Slim is marking their return to the stage with a full-length album release of deep cuts from recording sessions between 1998 and 2000. The album, Eating the Dirt, is now available on all streaming platforms.
“Fast, loud, melodic sing-along punk songs” is how frontman Aaron Hogg sums up the band’s sound in a nutshell.
Fellow bandmates Scott Mason (drums), Simon Meehan (guitar) and Donald McClure (vocals/bass) went on to various music projects over the years, including Muscleman for Simon and Scott, and Thunderwülf for Aaron and Don in the early days.
Sadly, Don passed away three years after Thunderwülf’s inception.
“We hope to honour Don, our friend, our brother – by smashing out these songs in front of pumping crowd of new and old listeners,” says Scott.
“We’ll play as hard, fast, and with as much integrity as our old asses can, just maybe a few beats per minute slower.”
Scott, Simon and Aaron will be joined by Aaron’s son, Theo Tudor-Hogg, who’ll play guitar and bass – alternating with his dad – while also doing backing vocals.
“My son is playing the show with us, so hopefully he’ll drag us into line with his youthful vim and vigour,” says Aaron.
Go Live Festival is on 23 August from 7–11pm at Christchurch Town Hall. Tickets are on sale now – and selling fast – for $35 plus booking fees. Find all the details, including the full line-up, at What’s On.
