Christchurch City Council’s 2025 Annual Report reflects a city that continues to thrive.
Mayor Phil Mauger said the Report, which was adopted at today’s Council meeting, shows another year of strong performance for Christchurch and Banks Peninsula.
“I am so proud of the resilient, thriving city we’ve built together and are continuing to grow with new people and businesses choosing to make the ‘capital of cool’ their home every single day,” Mayor Mauger said.
“A particular highlight is our Residents’ Survey which has shown real progress. Last year 87.5 percent of our delivery of levels of service to the community met their performance targets – that’s the best result since before the earthquakes, and overall satisfaction is up to 53 percent.”
“In this last year we’ve worked through complex national reforms, kept our water services local, and stood up for community concerns over housing intensification,” he said.
“I want to thank Councillors, staff, and residents for their effort and commitment to making Christchurch one of the most liveable cities in New Zealand. This report shows Christchurch is heading in the right direction, and the future is bright.”
The Council has reported a surplus of $62 million against a budget of $47.6 million and delivery of $680 million of capital work, before adjustments, including a number of major projects advancing.
“The new Court Theatre has opened, the upgraded Christchurch wastewater treatment plant design is well under way, and the new Ōmōkihi South Library and Customer Service Hub is set to open in December next year,” Mayor Mauger said.
“One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha, project managed and delivered by the Council, remains on time and on budget for its April 2026 opening, and will bring year-round sport and entertainment into the city.”
A designed version of the Annual Report, including the audit report, will be available by the end of November.
