Residents are being advised to plan ahead and expect delays around the Te Kaha precinct during the Super Round games at the new stadium.
Thousands of event-goers will descend on One NZ Stadium at Te Kaha on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the three-day rugby tournament.
Stadium operator Venues Ōtautahi has prepared a traffic management plan to get everyone to and from the events safely, as well as to keep traffic flowing around the central city.
Road closures and restrictions will be in place around One NZ Stadium, which is located on the block of Tuam, Madras, Hereford and Barbadoes Streets.
“Road closures will start from 4.30pm on Friday, 2pm on Saturday and 11am on Sunday to accommodate the different event start times each day. We recommend planning ahead if you’re working in town or visiting on those days,” says Christchurch City Council Head of Transport Stephen Wright.
Road closures will lift at 11.59pm on Friday and Saturday, and 9.30pm on Sunday.
There is also a Super Rugby Live Site on The Terrace next to the Bridge of Remembrance, which will feature Super Rugby team signings, performers, live game broadcasts and other family-friendly activities from Thursday – Sunday.
A Fan Trail will run between the Bridge of Remembrance and One NZ Stadium, with buskers, dancers and musicians along the route.
“If you’re visiting the CBD to see the games, either at the stadium or Live Site, come in nice and early to soak up the atmosphere,” says Mr Wright.
