Culture Galore 2026

Bigger, brighter and more vibrant than ever! Get ready for a celebration of flavour, colour and connection in the heart of Ōtautahi Christchurch.

Whether you’re coming for the food, the performances, or just a great day out, Culture Galore is for you. Bring your friends, your whānau and your appetite, and celebrate culture, connection and community – together.

Entry is free, but come prepared, most food and craft stalls are cash only. This is a smoke-free, vape-free and alcohol-free event. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.

Saturday 21 March, from midday to 4pm at the Multicultural Recreation and Community Centre, 455 Hagley Ave. Free entry.

Big Bargain Book Sale

Calling all book lovers! Christchurch City Libraries' annual book sale is back. Grab great books at even greater prices.

  • Fiction and non-fiction - $3
  • Young adult and children's books - $1
  • Magazines - 20 cents each (5 for $1)
  • Premium books (including books on art, landscape, gardening) are at marked prices
  • Large print - $3
  • Audio-visual items such as DVDs, CDs, etc - $3

It doesn't matter when you come to the book sale, as new stock is put out all the time. Please bring your own bags to carry books. Friday 20 March, 9am to 7pm; and Saturday 21 March, 9am to 4pm at Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre. Free entry.

Duke Festival | 10th Anniversary

Celebrating Duke Kahanamoku's legacy with surfing and skateboarding events plus visual arts, live music and cultural performances.

Now in its 10th year, the Duke Festival showcases Aotearoa talent in surfing, skateboarding, art and music to raise awareness for the historic event for New Brighton and surfing's cultural ties. It consistently provides a great festival appealing to a diverse range of people, is family friendly and most events are free! 

19-22 March, 6am-4pm daily, at the New Brighton Pier. Free entry.

Inaugural annual pottery festival

High quality pottery and ceramics from 25+ South Island artists. Proceeds go to community activities at St Faiths Church. 

There will be coffee, tea and food available. Eftpos and cash accepted. 

20 and 21 March, from 10am to 4pm daily. St Faiths Church, 46 Hawke Street, New Brighton. Free entry.

Autumn Racing Season - Day 1

Riccarton Park - Hororata brings top class racing with family entertainment and activities. Children's entertainment includes face painting, bouncy castles, pony cycles and junior fashion.

On Saturday 21 March. First race is 11.45am approximately, with the last at 4.45pm approximately. Riccarton Racecourse, 165 Racecourse Road, Sockburn. Free entry.
