Fancy learning stage combat, Bollywood dance or trapeze? You’re in luck, with more than 65 different artistic movement classes now available at Parakiore.

Catering to people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, MOVE has just released its class timetable and opened bookings for term one.

“From Tiny Tots to older adults, we have classes available to everyone. We’re focussed on creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where people can come in and give anything a go,” says MOVE Acting Centre Director Chloë Dear.

MOVE is a registered charity operating from three purpose-built studios at Parakiore Recreation and Sport Centre on Moorhouse Ave in central Christchurch.

Dance styles on offer include modern jive, breaking, hip hop, ballroom and Latin, K-pop, and line dancing.

People can also sign up for trapeze, aerial silks, acrobatics, Cyr wheel, and many more circus disciplines in the Circus Studio.

With so many options, MOVE is offering $5 taster classes until 31 January. The taster classes give people the opportunity to try out a range artistic movement styles in a fun, welcoming and relaxed environment.

“Our January taster classes are perfect for anyone curious to try something new, get active, or simply enjoy moving with others,” says Ms Dear.

Bookings can be made online at move.org.nz/classes.

Christchurch City Council Head of Recreation, Sport and Events Nigel Cox says MOVE is the “perfect complement to the other recreation and sport offerings at Parakiore”.

“It’s fantastic to have dance, circus and acrobatics classes under the same roof as our pool, gym and group fitness studios. There are so many different ways to get moving, and you can do it all at Parakiore,” says Mr Cox.

Parakiore opened in December 2025 and is the largest indoor sport and recreation venue of its kind in New Zealand, spanning 32,000 square metres.

MOVE is one of several tenants at the facility, which is owned and operated by Christchurch City Council. People can learn more about MOVE, sign up to their mailing list, and book classes at move.org.nz.
