Go Live Festival is back this August, bringing an exciting line-up to Christchurch Town Hall, including an iconic name in Aotearoa music.

Headliner Minuit will return to the stage for the Christchurch City Council winter music festival, coming up on Saturday 23 August. The one-off reunion performance will be Minuit’s first in ten years, taking festivalgoers back in time with a review of the songs that defined their glory days.

The band, which shot to fame around the turn of the millennium, are known for their unique blend of electronic beats, alt-pop, and darkly playful lyrics.

Frontwoman Ruth Carr and multi-instrumentalists, producers and samplers Paul Dodge and Ryan Beehre promise a show that will have both old fans and newcomers dancing with abandon.

“It’ll be a chance to dance, laugh and sing (in my case, often the wrong words) together, live, one more time," says Carr.

Beehre describes their music like "a place where melancholy, menace, romance and the macabre get fed into machines that make you dance."

A few songs on Minuit’s Go Live setlist include 'The Boy with the Aubergine Hair', 'Except You', 'Fuji', 'Menace', ‘Aotearoa’, ‘I Hate Guns’ and ‘25 Bucks’. “With four albums to choose from, everything gets a look in!” says Dodge.

The band formed in Nelson, but its connection to Christchurch runs deep, with the early days marked by many a gig on the Ōtautahi live music scene.

“Christchurch has always had a place in Minuit's heart,” Dodge says. “Ross at the Dux gave us our first gig outside of Nelson. RDU DJs picked up the tunes. There were so many shows with crowds in Base, Carbon, Double Happy, Winnies, Al's Bar, Alpine Unity and the Civic with Concord Dawn. Ryan held a DJ residency at Concrete as Funkn'slocuts, and we all ended up living in Christchurch at some stage.

“We’re looking forward to seeing you again, Ōtautahi!"

Also on the line-up this year are Tadpole, Slim, Cairo Knife Fight and Good Shirt’s Rodney Fisher with The Response, along with eight other artists who will perform across four stages from 7–11pm on 23 August.
