Summer Sundays

The fun at Summer Sundays continues! Chill out and enjoy Going Bush – A Kate Bush Tribute, Lloyd and Doublet and Kelly Horgan at the second Summer Sundays afternoon session this weekend.

Head along to Archery Lawn in the Botanic Gardens from 1 – 4pm for the free concert. Picnic food, drinks and chairs are welcome – no glass, please.

Sea Signals: An Art Festival For Ocean Conservation

Ten artists will turn the city into a street art festival throughout the Sea Signals: An Art Festival For Ocean Conservation, starting this Sunday. Sea Signals will transform Christchurch with powerful large scale murals that connect ocean conservation, contemporary art, and research in the public realm.

Presented by PangeaSeed, Flare Ōtautahi Street Art Festival, and Watch This Space, this new public art project brings together an international and local lineup of artists responding to the ocean as a living, communicating system. Check it out in the central city.

Family Fun Day at Okains Bay Museum

Come along to the 50th anniversary of Okains Bay Waitangi Day commemorations on Friday. This year’s event will take the form of a Family Fun Day. Activities will include free admission to exhibits and heritage buildings, guided tours, workshops, demonstrations, games and activities for kids, stalls, music and a garden bar.

Adding to the range of snacks and drink on offer, you may wish to bring your own picnic and your togs for a swim at the beach afterwards. Head to Okains Bay Museum from 10am – 4pm Friday.

Cosy up with a storybook in the reading nook at Christchurch Art Gallery, and make a special celebratory bookmark to continue your reading and learning at home.

Come along to the Gallery on Saturday from 10am to midday to get involved.

Open Air Summer Shakespeare

Merry Wives of Windsor hits the grassy Mound Lawn at Mona Vale this weekend for another Open-Air Summer Shakespeare of comedy for all.

Another of Shakespeare's much-loved comedies, The Merry Wives of Windsor, has Falstaff up to his old tricks of wanting to woo two wives. Unbeknownst to Falstaff, the two ladies are good friends and tell each other of Falstaff's advancements and so plot their own revenge. A very funny and hugely entertaining play. Tickets are $15-$20, more information online.

Riverlution Farmers Market

Come and explore a wonderful selection of seasonal produce, artisan breads, and handcrafted treats, all created with love by local growers and makers at the Riverlution Farmers Market.

Enjoy the vibrant atmosphere with live music, a delicious coffee from Riverlution Café, and a great community vibe! Head to Riverlution at 46A Vogel Road from 9am – 12.30pm Saturday to check it out.

Riverlution Yoga

Enjoyed the Riverlution Farmers Market on Saturday? Head back down on Sunday for Yoga for a Cause with a fundraiser class by Riverlution Café. Each session raises funds for the Riverlution Eco Park, so while you stretch and unwind, you’ll also be giving back to the community. 

Come along to the relaxing 45-minute yoga session with Fiona, Pele, or Jo from 8am Sunday. Sessions cost $10.
