Looking for things to do in Christchurch? Here's your low-cost guide celebrate the King's Birthday and the first weekend of winter.

Rieger Pipe Organ in the Town Hall

Hear Christchurch’s iconic Rieger pipe organ at the annual Christchurch Town Hall organ curator’s free concert. The performance will feature the resident organist, international concert organist Martin Setchell, with guest, Thomas Eves, principal trumpet of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.

Talented young Christchurch organist Sea-am Thompson will also be performing. Come along to the free concert at the Town Hall from 2.30 – 4pm Monday (King’s Birthday).

Roll With It

You can’t be bored with board games! Join us at Upper Riccarton Library from 1 – 3.30pm this Saturday for an afternoon of gaming in a relaxed and inclusive environment. You’re welcome to bring your own games or play one of ours.

Got an existing board game club? Come along and check out our library space – food and drink are welcome.

Reflections of the East Revisited

Some of you may remember the very successful photographic exhibition that Linwood Library ran three years ago. A range of photos were on display reflecting the life and times of our community here on the east side of Christchurch.

We will be re-exhibiting these wonderful photos for the month of June in the window area of Linwood Library. Come and take a look - you may even recognise a friend or whānau member.

ReLoved After Dark Market

Come along to The Bridge Hub at 419 Marine Parade this Friday for a cosy evening of conscious shopping and community vibes at the ReLoved After Dark Market.

Browse a treasure trove of quality pre-loved clothing, accessories and quirky finds – all while supporting the community and embracing sustainable style. The market will be on from 6 – 9pm.

The plus-size market

Check out this two-day thrift-fest and celebration of plus-size style, sustainability and community. Expect racks of second-hand plus-size clothing (sizes 16-30+), stallholders selling are, jewellery, plants and more, and a joyful, empowering space where all bodies are celebrated.

Koha donation, 50% of gold coin entry’s will be donated towards Pacific Rainbow Collective, Moana Vā. Head down to the Addington Raceway and Events Centre on Friday and Saturday.

King's Birthday at Ferrymead Heritage Park

Spend your King’s Birthday weekend at Ferrymead Heritage Park! Soak up the sounds of tradition as the Sumner Silver Band fills the park with tunes of a classic brass band. The Canterbury Railway Society is hosting two special guest trains: D16 from Pleasant Point Railway and Museum, and A 64 from The Plains Vintage Railway.

The Tramway Historical Society will also be rolling out the Kitson steam train pulling the double decker trailer. Check it out from 10am – 4pm Sunday and Monday.

Monthly Fungi Whānau at Fungi Farm

Come along to the Fungi Farm’s natural playground for the Monthly Fungi Whānau event. Each month, the Fungi Farm will delve into a different fungi topic with engaging workshops and hands-on activities. Whether you’re a seasoned mycologist or just curious about the world of fungi, there’s something for all abilities.

This month, join Hayley and Inga where you’ll learn about inoculating fungi, preparing soil for the best fungi growth, experiments with coffee grinds, books and cardboard, observing and learning about mushrooms that eat dead wood, and more fungi-themed activities. Join along from 10.30am – 1pm Sunday at the Richmond Community Garden’s Fungi Farm.
