Women of the Wheel: Past and Present Exhibition

Journey through time and discover the history of women's cycling in Ōtautahi Christchurch from 1890 to now at the Women of the Wheel: Past and Present Exhibition, opening at Tūranga on Saturday and will be running until 24 November.

Explore the history of Christchurch as a cycling hub and the stories of local Christchurch women whose lives were transformed through their encounter with the bicycle, discover how cycling motivated women to reform the way they dressed, and learn about contemporary women cyclists who are actively shaping the city’s landscape today.

The Women of the Wheel exhibition opens at Tūranga on 24 August.

Opening of He Kapuka Oneone – A Handful of Soil

A new exhibition exploring the connections between people and land in Aotearoa New Zealand opens on Saturday at Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū.

He Kapuka Oneone – A Handful of Soil brings together a wide variety of historic and contemporary works, featuring painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, weaving and moving image works – all part of a complete ‘rehang’ of the upper level of the gallery.

Go Green Expo

Come along to New Zealand’s Largest Sustainable Lifestyle Show for your one stop shop for everything you need to live a sustainable life. Categories on display include eco home/building, food and beverages, supplements, pet products, gardening, grocery and more.

Free tickets are available online now, $5 adult door sales are available upon entry, children under 16 are free. The Go Green Expo will be on at Wolfbrook Arena from 10am – 4pm Saturday and Sunday.

Welcome to the Community Planting Day

Connect with your community on a Burwood planting day this weekend. A perfect opportunity for newcomers and locals to meet, bond and contribute to greening our city together.

Just bring gardening gloves, a water bottle and appropriate outdoor clothing. Conservation Volunteers New Zealand (CVNZ) will provide all the tools for the activities, as well as vests and afternoon tea. Head over to 82 Brooker Avenue from 1 – 4pm Saturday.

Revamp Vintage ‘Almost Spring’ Market

Ōtautahi’s largest indoor market, the Revamp Vintage Market, is on at the Air Force Museum of New Zealand from 10am – 3pm Sunday. Look through a selection of stalls from Canterbury vintage stores, dealers, traders and one-off sellers with a huge collection of the unusual, the eclectic and the interesting to sell.

The market has the feel of London’s famous Portobella Markets and the French flea markets. Come for a rummage and find your treasure amongst the ever-changing stall offerings.
