The stormwater pipe and outfall structure at Corsair Bay, Lyttleton is being replaced because the existing pipe has reached the end of its service life.
The pipe extends from just south of Park Terrace, through Corsair Bay Reserve to the shoreline.
Pedestrian access will be maintained to and along the beach while the pipe is being replaced, so that people can continue to swim at the beach and use the coastal path.
The two parking areas will be closed until the end of September, although on-street parking will be available as usual on Park Terrace.
“We’ve scheduled this work for the cooler months to minimise the disruption to beach users,” says Head of Three Waters Gavin Hutchison.
The work is expected to have minimal impact on Park Terrace traffic, although a reduced speed limit and minor traffic management – such as stop/go signage and e-traffic lights – may be in place at times.
The work starts on 7 April and is expected to take six months to complete.
