This weekend why not put your core strength to the test at a free Pilates class or spend some time with the kids at the Christchurch Toy and Hobby Fair.

Party at the Gallery

Kick off your weekend with a party on Friday night to mark Christchurch Art Gallery's 15th birthday.  From 7.30pm there will be live music, pop-up bars and food trucks  where you can buy drinks and food.  The party also marks the opening of the US V THEM exhibition which showcases the acclaimed works of local artist Tony de Lautour.

Ferrymead Night Market

It’s the first Saturday of the month which means it is time for another Ferrymead Night Market. Take a night off cooking and head along to the Ferrymead Heritage Park and get something tasty to eat from one of the market’s food vendors.

Browse the craft stalls and let the kids burn off some energy on the bouncy castle or take a twilight ride on the Vulcan railcar ($2 a ride). The market is on from 5 to 9pm and entry is by gold coin donation, with all the money going towards infrastructure repairs at the park.

Christchurch Toy and Hobby Fair

Kids, collectors and toy enthusiasts will want to make a bee-line for Wigram on Sunday for the Christchurch Toy and Hobby Fair. The fair is being held in the Caledonian Society Hall, 5 Michelle Road, between 10.30am and 2.30pm and will showcase a vast array of classic and vintage toys and collectibles. Admission is $5 (children under 12 free) with all proceeds going to the Christchurch City Mission.

Join in Sunday's community planting day at Styx Mill Conservation Reserve.

You will need to bring gardening gloves, a spade for planting, sturdy shoes and clothing suitable for all weather conditions. The meeting point is the Hussey Road carpark.
