A Kiwi music super group has been announced as the major music act for the Canterbury A&P Show this year, as countdown to the city's annual Show Week begins.
The Yeah Nah Nahs – made up of musicians Jason Kerrison (OpShop), Rodney Fisher (Goodshirt), James Reid (The Feelers), Dean Lawton (Tadpole), and Julia Deans (Fur Patrol) – will take to the stage for two shows on Friday, November 11 – Show Day.
A&P Show spokesperson Nicola Henderson said the Kiwi supergroup would run through all their hits.
“This act is sure to impress with some of the biggest names in music, playing some of the most recognisable songs from New Zealand’s recent musical history. There will literally be something for everyone.”
Preparations are well underway for the Show – running from Wednesday, November 9 til Show Day on November 11 - with big changes afoot for some of the most popular areas.
Ms Henderson said the Food & Wine Village was being revamped to create more space and would feature a food hall area where people could purchase food from a variety of vendors and sit down to eat and drink. The pavilion would also open onto a wine courtyard which would face the stage from the Village Green area.
“We’re working hard to make this area more user friendly and inviting - it’s such a popular area which can at times lead to the pavilion becoming very busy. We think our Show visitors will appreciate the extra space and being able to sit down and enjoy their food and drink while watching some of the entertainment on the Village Green.
“The Show has been bringing country to town for 154 years and continues to be a fantastic day out for our community. It’s the tweaks that we make here and there each year that continue to make this Show better and better.”
Ms Henderson said the Show would feature all the classic events and attraction, with more than 3000 animals on site over three days, competing in more than 1700 classes for the best of the best showing titles.
This year there would also be a dog agility show called Ultimate Canines, a revamped Enduro-cross motorbike course, and a chance to watch the country’s best shearers and woolhandlers in action as they attempt to qualify for the New Zealand team competing in the Shearing World Championships in Invercargill next year.
Show tickets are available for pre-purchase online, and are up to 25 percent cheaper until November 1.
